Skipper George Lavelle Leads Second XI Home

On Tuesday the North Division leaders Derbyshire Second XI were the

visitors and, batting first they posted 129-8 with Mitch Wagstaff making

an excellent 47 from 41 balls with four fours and a six. A late onslaught

by Nick Potts, who hit 30 not out in 21 balls with one four and two sixes

helped Derbyshire to recover from 68-6 to reach their final total. For

Lancashire left-arm spinner Charlie Barnard bowled superbly to return 3-

19 from his four overs.

Lancashire lost an early wicket when George Bell was caught on

the boundary for one but George Balderson put some momentum into

the innings with 23 from 12 balls and with Harry Singh, also contributing

23, helped to set up the finale that left Lancashire requiring 20 runs from

the final two overs.

Along with Barnard, 12 not out with a vital late six included, Lavelle

took the lead and his 37 not out from 32 balls with one four and one six

took Lancashire to their 130-6 and victory by four wickets with four balls

remaining.

The result took Lancashire to eight points, level with Derbyshire

but sitting in second place on net run rate in the North Division.

And don’t forget, the next visit from a Lancashire side is when

Thunder make a second visit to Stanley Park on 7 July to take on South

East Stars in the Rachael Heyhoe-Flint Trophy. This will be followed by

Lancashire Lightning entertaining Kent Spitfires on 28 July in the Metro

Bank One Day Cup.
