Blackpool 2nd XI Also Compete in the Northern league in division 2 and the division 2 league cup. The team has a split between youth and experience with many Nothern league record holders such as Robin Bracewell and David Newton passing on their experience to young up and coming players. Over previous seasons the aim has been to develop younger players so they are ready to make the step up to the 1st XI cricket, which has also seen the team develop as its younger members have going from strength to strength.

Colonel's 2008 End Of Season Report

The 2nd X1 finished 3rd in the league and reached the semis of the cup comp, so they too had a good season. Veteran David Newton put in another solid performance with 530 runs league and cup and Andy Armstrong had his now customary excellent season with the ball, claiming 55 wickets in all. Young Luke Melville is showing signs of maturing into a senior league player, with 33 wickets and should be looking to progress a stage further next season. Jamie Hogarth scored his first ton for the club in his first season up from the Palace Shield (111 not out against Fleetwood) and has shown his worth as an all rounder for his new club. Nicky Wall had his best NL season to date accumulating 333 runs and in the second half of the season it was very encouraging to see our promising young players being given their opportunity in the 2nd string, a sure sign that the club is moving in the right direction.
